Blue as IBM and Chefchaouen

We rented a minibus and went to Chefchaouen. As have all the other #IBMCSC teams done before us. And even if the drive took more than 8 hours due to a blocked road it was so worth it. A sunny sunny blue day in this very blue town with the blue IBMers. Cannot think of a more blue day!

In agreement with the client & lots of laughter

Today we agreed with the client on what we will deliver. We have studied the documents we have received and are now aligned on what he expect and what we can deliver. One big step.

Before dinner everybody presented status of their projects. We are all now pretty much on track and it felt good to hear the status of the others.

After that we went out for dinner. We are such a loud group, which is great! Laugther and teasing and today we had language lessons. There is quite a variety to chose from 🙂

Productive

Today we were very productive. Had to be. Tomorrow we are presenting our first analysis of the organisation and we certainly hope that we are if not spot on, then at least very close. If not we will have lost valuable time.

Our group is working out very well together. Great discussions, all taking place with respect and humour. Could not ask for better teammembers.

The days are always interesting. There is always something to observe and be surprised by. Today we saw the window cleaner standing on the outside several floors up with no security at all. We are constantly spoiled by the coffee man bringing us coffey and cookies. We enjoyed a very nice lunch and were marbled by the hectic traffic.

And finally, when leaving the office the view of Casablanca in the early evening light was a beautiful sight.

Keep fingers crossed that our report will be well received tomorrow.

Overwhelmed :)

Second day at the client. We had some theories that felt quite good when we left the client’s office yesterday. This morning our director gave us a very impressive presentation of the overall Casablanca strategy until 2018. Our client needs to adjust to this strategy and we are the ones to provide him with the set up of an organisation that fits into this strategy. We might have to work a little more on our theories 😉

So… this is not everyday work for any of us. And this we knew. So now we need to think think think, be clever, figure out what we can deliver and how to get that done.

All the teams are experiencing different issues but spirits are high and we all feel that we are privilidged to be a part of something like this.

Meeting the clients

What a big day!!  All dressed up, going the the IBM-office. We were greeted in the friendliest way by the person in charge, and we immediately felt at home.

After an hour our clients arrived. They presented their organisations and we could start the discussions in the subteams and after lunch we continued to the clients offices.

In the evening we all got together to hear about our different experiences during the day. It was all very interesting and as always I was again impressed by the way my brilliant colleagues are handling the challenges. As there is no doubt there will be challenges. The expectations are high and our time is limited. But we are all determined to deliver excellency.

This is only the second full day we have together, but we are acting as a happy bunch of friends! Laughing, teasing eachother and just having a good time. But there is sincere carering too. We all suffer with poor Masa who has not yet received his luggage due to a Copenhagen strike. We laugh out loud about Sarahs huge problem with getting the right size of towels and we have sorted out who is the “baby” and who is the oldest. I of course won the “oldest” competition but Dani who won the “youngest” competition is certainly not immature. I am impressed with her now, she could very well be our next CEO 🙂

Getting to know eachother

After being on numerous calls and creating our own images of each and every member of the group it is really interesting to meet, talk, eat, laugh and discover Casablanca together.

Today was a full walk-around-Casablanca-day. Where can we buy groseries, where is the drugstore, where are some good restaurants? Our lovely contact person Boutaina has taken us all over the place, and it is quite a large city. So lots of walking 🙂  find that we laugh and joke a lot in the group and the athosphere is very promising for the next four weeks.

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Dress up, be smart, meet the client and start the project. So an early night tonight I think!

Less than 24 hours to take off

I am reading loads of blogs from colleagues on their way. My own team are chatting about luggage and are all cheerful and looking forward to meeting the whole group in Casablanca  tomorrow!

There is another team going to India just a week or two after us. Reading one of their blogs I realize how fast ones mind actually moves from phase to phase. They have just been informed about their projects and have so many questions about that. We have gone to the next step, we know a bit about our projects and have started to think about them in a more constructive way.

I am constantly being asked what I will do and when I tell people I always add that I am way out of my comfort zone, and there will be a discussion on that topic. Especially with IBM colleagues. The more we talk the more I realize that what we are doing is of course very special, but there is still an element of this in our every day life when working within a company like IBM.  We always work in multi-cultural teams. We work for many years with people from other countries that we never even meet. Changes and new set-ups are business as usual for us and learning new things is also something that is constantly ongoing.  So we are all well prepared.

And on top of that, I am 100% convinced that we will all do our very very best. That is a great start!

One of my blockbest colleagues and her sweet daughter gave me a present. The prettiest notebook . I will make sure to use it every day. I dont want to forget a thing that I learn 🙂

Last team call before take off!

morocco

Today is the last call with the team. Next time we speak it will be face to face! Exiting.

During the whole project we have been trained, informed and prepared for this adventure! As previous calls I am impressed with the organisation behind us. We have the best possible back up and all kind of eventualities are being covered. As our tutor is telling us it might feel a bit overwhelming, being used to travel on your own. But this is different, we are not going on a vacation, we are on an assignment and we need to think a little different.

My bag is packed!!

I am usually a hopeless packer.  Things are packed in the last minute and have no idea how much I will bring. But this time I am super organised! Feels great to have it all ready, all the printed materials we need to bring is sitting in nice binders,  checklist is done and I am surprising both my family and myself with this behaviour! I might be going through a personality change 😉

All I see is volunteer work :)

You know the saying.. when you are pregnant, the city is full of prams!  Because you only see what you want to see. Before the pregnancy you never saw those prams.

With three days to go all I see are articles on voluntary work, trip recommendations to Morocco and I cannot stop reading the blogs created by my team members.

Today this article took up all my breakfast time. Great writing about teamwork that matters. If you have time, read it.
